Urgent Money Before Payday: What a Registered Lender Can and Cannot Do

The real timeline from application to payout for a short-term loan at a registered lender, what it costs on a 30-day term, and what slows an urgent application.

"My car failed the roadworthy, I need R3,000 by Friday and I only get paid on the 25th. I'm employed, my bank is Capitec. How fast can this actually happen?" Here is the real sequence, without the word "instant".

The sequence

  • Application online: ID number, income, expenses, employer, and consent for a bureau check. Ten minutes.
  • Documents: your ID, a selfie for identity verification, your latest payslip and three months of bank statements. Our system extracts the figures from the statements automatically; most delays happen here, when a statement is a screenshot, is password-protected, or does not show the account holder's name.
  • Assessment: bureau check plus affordability. If nothing on the bureau is a hard stop and the instalment fits within 70% of your disposable income, an offer is issued as a pre-agreement statement and quotation.
  • Signature: section 92 requires the pre-agreement statement and quotation before you sign; you sign electronically, and nothing is paid out until you have.
  • Payout: by EFT to the bank account in your own name that appears on your statements. A payout to someone else's account is not possible.

What makes it slower

  • A bank statement that hides your name or account type. Some banks' app exports omit these; use the PDF statement from the bank itself.
  • A payslip and a bank deposit that do not match. Explain the difference up front (garnishee, savings transfer) rather than waiting for us to ask.

When a short-term loan is the wrong answer

If you are bridging the same gap every month, a 30-day loan makes the next month tighter, not easier. In that situation the affordability assessment will usually say so — and if it does not, look at the personal loan over a longer term, or at whether the gap is a budget problem no credit will fix.

See the real repayment before you apply

The pre-check shows the total repayable for the amount and term you enter.

Thinking about credit?

Start with the facts. Check your eligibility and estimate repayments before you apply — no obligation.
